CHRISTMAS TREE VARIETIES

Choosing your perfect tree.

There’s nothing quite like finding your perfect Christmas tree on a crisp winter day at Laue Christmas Tree Farm. Families from Skagit Valley, Whatcom County, and beyond have made it a tradition to walk our fields, breathe in the fresh evergreen scent, and pick the tree that feels just right. Whether you’re drawn to the soft, classic branches of a Douglas Fir, the bright, citrusy fragrance of a Grand Fir, or the sturdy elegance of a Noble Fir, each tree has its own way of making your home feel like Christmas.

The Douglas Fir has that timeless holiday shape with gentle, blue-green needles and a lighter branch structure—perfect for simple ornaments and a cozy, traditional look. The Grand Fir glows with glossy green needles and fills the room with its fresh, forest scent. And for those who love a tree that can carry the weight of treasured ornaments and glowing light strands, the Noble Fir is unmatched. Growing more slowly than the others, it develops strong, beautifully spaced branches and a silvery-blue hue that make it the premium choice for those who love a classic Pacific Northwest Christmas.

How to identify the trees on our lot

Not sure which tree is which? Here’s how to tell them apart as you explore our farm:

Douglas Fir – Look for a full, pyramid shape with soft, flexible needles that are flat and green with a hint of blue. The needles radiate around the branch and give the tree a bushy, traditional Christmas look.

Grand Fir – Notice the glossy, dark green needles that lie flat on the branches, showing off their white-striped undersides. The Grand Fir has a layered, symmetrical shape and gives off a bright, citrusy scent.

Noble Fir – Easy to spot by its strong, evenly spaced branches and silvery-blue needles that curve slightly upward. The Noble has a stately, open shape that shows off ornaments beautifully, and it feels just as sturdy as it looks.
